Stencils are a fun scrapbooking idea to try. There is no need to purchase any supplies unless you want to. All you need is some paint, a paintbrush or sponge and cardstock that you cut a design into. You may even have some stencils within your existing craft supplies. As you can see my mini stamp pads aka cats eyes work just as well and they are something I carry in my tool bag!

Place the stencil on your layout and position it where you want. Stencils work great for creating titles and can be done in stages to create multi color effects. Like the fish design I am creating here.

If you create your own stencils you can cut or punch out letters, shapes or designs and hold it down the remaining paper with your hands or repositionable adhesive. If you have a die cutter you can cut the design out and use it as your stencil, a Cricket or Silhouette would be great to make stencils. Hand punches would also work well.

Always carefully remove the stencil while repositioning it. You can further embellish the stenciled area like I did with glitter or small beads or you can apply different color paint by hand with a brush. In this design I added some gold embossing powder to a few areas for a glimmer effect and then applied heat to create an embossed look.
