Sometimes a scrapbooking idea comes from an unlikely source. I made a commitment to myself this year to try to use my existing scrapbooking supplies and only buy new items when absolutely necessary. Since I have been doing this, I have come up with some creative ways to use my old paper and supplies.
When I first got into patterned paper I went a little overboard and in some cases bough paper because I liked the pattern or design. In some cases the artwork covered too much of the paper and covering part of it would detract, in others the pattern or artwork was just too bold or large for my taste, so this paper just sat in my cabinet. Pretty but useless, I debated selling it at a scrapbooking tag sale but if I couldn’t use it who would buy it?
My solution? I cut out images from the paper and use them as embellishments. The layouts shown were both created this way. I cut out the sun’s from patterned paper and then made them into embellishments for a summer layout. Using a pop dot really makes them stand out. I loved the fairy paper but using it as just didn’t work with any of my ideas so I cut out the fairies I loved and used them as an embellishment on my layout. They were glittery and fun and I think really made the layout “pop”.
